About the CD

Last Round:

I kept the first eleven tracks true to my song “Last Round”, it was a project that developed with me stepping away from my original music and then being thrusted back into “going for it”. (This ironically has happened again) Pay attention to the lyrics in the song “Last Round” and I think you will understand, it was the way we (at one time Last Round was my band) performed all the eleven songs live. To stay true to the lyrics of “Last Round” I decided to include my version of Sam Cooke’s “Bring It on Home to Me” on my first CD release. “Bring It on Home to Me”, was a song I covered and rearranged when I was performing with the group Last Round, almost every time I sing this song, people ask about the tune.

The Recording Process:

I am very proud to say, almost everything you hear on these tracks is me, vocals, guitars, piano, bass and drums, but I did call on one friend (a reference to Last Round lyrics) Doug Arendas, to play some of the more intense percussion parts. I wanted this to be an honest, very human sounding CD, so I fixed very little. Most vocal and instrumental tracks were one to two takes and very little if any sequencing was used. I also used no cut, copy and pasted during recording and editing. And finally, I am proud to say, not one bit of pitch correction was used on anything during mixing or recording. I think the final result of the CD paid off, it was my attempt to get current music back to a more real sound, like before the invention of digital recording! Not every harmony is exactly the same and the tempo breaths like real player/players would play it live. I recorded all the tracks on my home equipment and enjoyed every moment tremendously. Recording, unlike in years before was a pleasure, because as I said earlier, my musical abilities have grown. When I record now, I don’t need a million takes to get things right, my voice is now a more proficient instrument, thanks to Mary Walkley and also many years of performing and practicing.

Lyrics:

1. Last Round

I was sitting on a bar stool, singing out my soul
Singing songs from the radio, none to call my own
It was job just like normal people, not exactly 9 to 5
But it paid the rent, bought the food, made the people come alive
One day the wind blew by, God put a thought in my head
I’m still young, got one more round, wake my words up from the dead
So I called my friends, the one’s I knew would stand behind my songs
I'm back, for one last round, I am born
We heard enough from Billy, Elton never had the words to say
Bruce was here and gone, someone took Sam’s life away
Good old Steve can’t sing like he use to
Hey Mister Stewart, Mister Mellencamp, hey how do you
We’re gonna close your eyes, gonna give you Déjà vu
As time goes on, I’ll always be here for you
Love, Life and Hope, hey show me the way
well now bring it on home to me, it’s your destiny
I’m just a simple man, hey don’t you walk away
Get a grip to the ground, here comes the last round
Alright!

2. Close Your Eyes

Did you ever try to see what happen
I know a lot been said
Did you ever stop to think what matters
I know we try to get a head
All the whispers to be heard
Under the shouting, One voice, one choice
Don’t try to close your eyes
Don’t try to hide
Don’t become what we fear inside
Don’t let him live your life
You know you’ll pay the price
Don’t close your eyes
Better things through other eyes
I know it’s hard to choose
A life of pain and struggles or an easy ride
An earthy gain makes news
Don’t turn away from either side
Learn from it use Faith not Pride

3. Deja Vu

How much time will it be
To escape the realm of reality
In the skies above the clouds
In my dreams you spoke out loud
Only with you
In my dreams of Déjà vu
I could have sworn I’d seen your face before
But where it was, I don’t know
Some day some how we will meet again
And live those dreams of way back when
Only with you
In my dreams of Déjà vu
Only with you
Caught up in this Déjà vu

4. Time Goes On

Just the other day
I had to stop and say
I’m glad you’re mine
Now my mind goes back
To where it all began
So glad you’re mine
But If I had to do it again
I’d never change a single thing
Time Goes on
And you’re by my side now
Time Goes on and on
First you said you would
And that you always should
Make up your mind
We need a place away
A place where we could stay
All would be fine

5. Always

Staring out, a different way
Two hearts connect from far away
Holding out, to find a dream
A love that’s real is all you need
Reaching out, to that girl
There’s one love in this world
One wants the money
Two want a show
Here’s one for me lets go
Asked to take her by the hand
As she looked into my eyes
Hoping she will understand
I take her as my bride, oh why
Well I’ll always be here for you
Well I promise to always be true
Hey to you
Calling out from my heart
I need your love, you’ve got the part
Ain’t no mistaken, I’m in love
Take me by the hand, awe just give me a hug
As I looked into her eyes
I knew this must be love
I felt at ease to compromise
Thanking my lucky stars above
I’m in love

6. Love, Life and Hope

If you walk on through your life with no one by your side
All alone you ride
The world gives all a chance to find the right
Don't try to hide
But if you need love
It will always find you
If you find love
Always be true
Cause God is watching you
When a boy can take the life of a fellow man
I don't understand
Cause time and time and time again
the world takes a friend
I don't understand
But if you want love
They say he's on your side
Why can't we love
each and every side
No I don't understand
No I don't understand
So Daddy
When does life become that way
You told me I could see a sign
Each and everyday
But each day I run in fear
My head down to the ground
My heart cries to the world
Put the weapons down
Cause I wanna believe
Cause I wanna believe
Believe
Cause if I need love
It will always find me
If I find love
I'll help the world to let it be
I hope God is watching me
God is watching me

7. Show Me The Way

On his first day of life
I got down on my knees
I called for advice
To teach me
Show me the way
Right from wrong
Good from bad
Keep him strong
Show me the way it's done
Father down to son
Day and night
The questions fly
Oh who am I
To say what's right
Should I teach him and preach to him
Or let him find his way
Should I hold him or scold him
He might just pull away
I had thought it over
I thought I found the way
But now it's time to mold him
God show me the way

8. Bring It On Home To Me

If you ever
Change your mind
About leaving
Leaving me behind
Oh bring it on home
Bring your sweet lovin'
Bring it on home to me
Yeah
I'll give you jewelry
And money too
That ain't all
That ain't all I do for you
Oh bring it on home
Bring your sweet lovin'
Bring it on home to me
You know I laughed
When you left
But now I know
I only hurt myself
Oh Bring it on home
Bring your sweet lovin'
Bring it on home to me
Yeah
You know I'll always
Be your slave
Till I'm buried
Till I'm buried in my grave
Oh bring it on home
Bring your sweet lovin'
Bring it on home to me
You know I tried
To treat you right
Then you stayed out
Then you stayed out
Till light
But I'll forgive you babe
If you bring it on home
Bring your sweet lovin'
Bring it on home to me

All vocals and instruments Joe Genuardi
Written by Sam Cooke

9. Destiny

Did you ever want to
Take a look at me
Figure how it happened
And see who you'll be
Sometimes I'm not who you strive for
I might not be the plan
You want to sneak a peak to see
How your movie ran
Yes Sir
A stroke of luck
Is how it's read
A twist of fate
And then you're dead
Well all and all you can't count on me
There's no real way to know your destiny
So ride along and see the plan
Of an ordinary man
Just ride along
And follow me
Just ride along
And follow me
Follow me
Just ride along
And follow me
Just ride along
And follow me
Follow me

10. Simple Man

Why can't we live in the world of a simple man
Simple problem solved by a simple plan
Search your heart for the right in the things you do
A Simple Man a role model for you
When I was younger
I never thought it would be
A struggle to become part of society
Now I'm older but still not so wise in my ways
But I try
Try to live a better life
Why can't we live in the world of a simple man
Simple problem solved by a simple plan
Search your heart for the right in the things you do
Simple Man a role model for you
So now stop
And take a listen here
Right now two people fight for their fear
That one is better than the other man
Don't they know my simple plan
Take my smile
And hold it in your heart
It shows a sign of peace
Try to live a better life
Try to live a better life
Why can't we live in the world of a simple man

11. Don't Walk Away

Alone in the night
Afraid of what went wrong
I'm crying out loud
That our love will be strong
But I'm holding out
Well I'm looking out for you
Well the changes I seen
I'm calling out to you
Don't go away
Can you hear me today
Do you know me
The way that I know you
I remember the times that we shared
I'm holding on but your not there
Oh oh oh
Don't walk away
The way you moved
And the way that you walked
The way you looked
And the way that you talked
Oh oh oh
Don't walk away
Don't go away
Can you hear me today
Do you know me
The way that I know you
Well the future will show
That my love for you will grow
Oh Baby please
Don't walk away
Times are hard for you and me
To share every loving laughing thing
Can't you see
Well I'm holding onto a dream
Oh please show your love to me
Don't go away
Can you hear me today
Do you know me
The way that I know you
Well the future will show
That my love for you will grow
Oh Baby please
Don't walk away
Well don't go away
Can you hear me today
Do you know me
The way that I know you
Well the future will show
That my love for you will grow
Oh Baby please
Don't walk away
Well now don't go away
Can you hear me today
Do you know me
The way that I know you

12. Why

I ask why people change
And I ask why
Things never stay the same
I remember
When we were younger
The dreams we held inside
Were both the same
Whoa
I ask why
Our feelings have changed
And I ask why
Things never stay the same
On a cold night
Love was all we knew
No promises made
No bargains exchanged for you
Whoa
I cry
And I ask why
Because you told me
You'd never let me go
I ask why
Our feelings have changed
And I ask why
The world has to change

13. Better Place

Gone
Everyday you're still gone
Your by his side
I still feel alone
Everyday my heart's alone
Heaven has you now
I must be strong
You're in a better place
But I still miss you here
You're in a better place
But I still miss you here
Why
Everyday I ask God why
One day I'll know his plan for taking you
Everyday I think of you
By the Father I hope you watch over me
You're in a better Place
But I still miss you here
You're in a better place
But I still miss you here
At this time of year
As the family gathers
You were once always here
I'll remember with joy
That I' see you there
You're in a better place
But I still miss you here
You're in a better place
But I still miss you
Here

14. One Way Lover

You've been cheating
You've been lying
But you know the only one you're cheating is yourself
You've been running
You've been hiding
But you know that road you run will lead you to an end
You're a one
One way Lover
And the only one you love is yourself
I'm done pretending
My love has ended
And oh I ain't gonna stick around no more
I've been tricked
I've been fooled
You know every game you play has an end
You're a one
One way lover
And the only one you love is yourself
You're a one
One way lover
And the only one you love is yourself
You've been cheating
You've been lying
But you know the only one you're cheating is yourself
You've been running
You've been hiding
That you road run will lead you to an end
You're a one
One way lover
And the only one you love is yourself
You're a one
One way lover
And the only one you love is yourself

15. Carry Me

I need the storm to calm
I need the dam to keep
Can't be the rope in a tug of war
Can't be in the middle anymore
Water falls from falling on me
'Cause love hasn't passed
Although I haven't grown
And God still there
To take me as his own
He's carrying me
He's carrying me
And I won't fall
Fate has grown
Through the worst of it all
And I know I haven't fallen
God still there
Through it all
God's word will not stop calling
He's carrying me
He's carrying me
And I won't fall
And the storm will calm
Carrying me
And the damn will break
Carrying me
Sometimes I'll even fall in the mud
Sometimes I'll even feel the tug
Through it all
He'll carry me
'Cause love hasn't past
Although I haven't grown
And God still there to take me as his own
He'll carry me
Carry me
And I won't fall
He'll carry me
Carry me
He'll carry me
Carry me
And I won't fall

When you close your eyes, do think of me
When I close my eyes you’re all I see
When you sleep at night, do you dream of me

Why you do so much for me
L- o- v- e me
I hope you understand me
Are you, following me
When you close your eyes, do you think of me
